To cope with market requirements and the development of the industry, YICT is equipped with leading-edge security equipment to ensure a safe gateway for shipping lines and shippers.
RFID With the help of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) installed in gatehouses, berths and quay cranes, it is now possible to monitor cargo transportation from warehouse to stowage onboard. The RFID is used in conjunction with e-seal, the former for reading, the latter for locking. RFID reads in real time all the information on the container's movement from leaving the warehouse, to entering the terminal and being loaded onboard, thus ensuring safe transportation throughout.
Container X-ray Screening How can one detect and identify illegal cargo entering the port, including radioactive materials and deadly arms? This is another key area for the port in its fight against terrorism. Non-Intrusive Inspection Technology (NII) is one of the solutions. With NII, it is possible to screen containers using X-ray. This allows accurate analysis of the data to tell if the contents contain any radioactive materials, without actually opening the containers.
The X-ray container inspection is conducted at the central inspection area of the port. It takes about 15 minutes to complete a scanning process for each container.
E-seal E-seal is an electronic lock installed on a truck. It automatically records every opening and closing movement of container doors in transit from the warehouse to the port. With the help of e-seal, it is now possible to monitor container transportation in real time. It helps Customs closely supervise and watch containers in order to guard against smuggling, stowaways and acts of terrorism.
Fast-scan Container Inspection System On 10 December 2008, the Fast-Scan Container Inspection System was put on trial run at Yantian. The scanning system takes only 10 seconds to scan a 40-foot container, improving customs release operations.
The system is deployed to help inspect and identify illegal cargo at the port entrance. It can examine moving trucks and hence collect information quickly. With multiple safety solutions, the system can avoid scanning the vehicle cab automatically, guaranteeing the driver¡¯s safety during system operation.
Carbon Dioxide Detectors Carbon dioxide detectors have been installed at the terminal to detect the presence of stowaways inside containers without having to open container doors. It takes only 15 seconds to finish the inspection process.
Heartbeat Detectors In June 2008, YICT equipped its entry gatehouses with detectors that can detect the presence of stowaways inside containers without having to open container doors. The devices are highly accurate, easy to use and take just seconds to operate.
One of China's 1st Recognised Terminal with Port Facility Security On 30 June 2004, China's Ministry of Transport (MOT) organised various port and ship security exercises at YICT to practise the application of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code adopted by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). Subsequent to the successful completion of the exercises, MOT granted YICT one of the country's first "Port Facility Security Certificates".
