Q: How many containers and trucks does the terminal handle every day?
A: According to statistics, in September 2005 YICT handled approximately 15,100 containers entering and leaving the terminal (including external container yards), and about 14,000 trucks entering the terminal every day on average. |

Q: How long does it take for YICT to operate on a vessel?
A: Currently, YICT's quay crane rate has surpassed 35 moves per hour, which is far greater than current world levels. For example; take a vessel at Yantian with say 2,000 containers operating at 35 moves per hour, it would only take 11-12 hours for YICT to complete its operations. |
| |
Q: What size is a container vessel?
A: Currently, the world's largest container vessel is 397 metres long and 56 metres wide. Yantian regularly receives this type of vessel. |
| |
Q: How many mega-container vessels call at Yantian?
A: In August 2006, 56 mega-container vessels with a shipping capacity of 8,000 plus TEU called at Yantian. |
| |
Q: What are the terminal operational procedures?
A: Please refer to operational procedures for details. |
| |
Q: How many days, in general, does it take for export containers to be loaded on a vessel?
A: This depends on what kind of declaration is required for a customer, for instance, if any documentation or inspection is required. Take an example of export transit laden containers. Since no inspection is required, declaration only takes about half a day. The containers can be loaded on a vessel right afterwards. YICT is working closely with Customs in the second round of Shenzhen Customs reforms in an effort to save declaration time and costs for customers. |

Q: What major goods are exported via YICT?
A: They include mechanical and electrical products, toys and textiles. Most of them are exported to America and Europe. |
| |
Q: How long does it take to export cargo via Yantian to the east coast of America, the west cost of America, and Europe?
A: Generally speaking, it takes 21-29 days from Yantian to the east coast of America, 11-14 days to the west coast of America and 20-27 days to Rotterdam in Europe. However, shipping times to these destinations differ for each shipping line. |
| |
Q: What rules are applied to store import and export containers in a container yard?
A: This is fairly complicated. Briefly, to make it easy for vessel operations, export containers are generally laid down according to vessel schedules while import containers are arranged according to shippers' requirements to enable truck drivers to pick up containers easily. |
| |
Q: Is it possible that a container could be loaded on the wrong vessel for the wrong destination?
A: YICT maintains tight control over every container, in and out of the terminal using digital and IT systems. These systems automatically plan and arrange container storage and pickup, and vessel operations. When each container is loaded onto a vessel or leaves a gatehouse, operators will again double check the information by keying in the container's number. Only when the main terminal operation management system checks that there is no error can the container be loaded or allowed to leave. |
