Mary Maersk calls at YICT with 17,000 TEU

On 19 August 2014, YICT welcomed the 18,000-TEU Mary Maersk, one of the world’s largest container vessels and part of Maersk's Triple E vessel fleet. During its call, the vessel carried approximately 17,000 TEU stacked 11 high under deck with ten tiers of high cube containers on deck, which is equivalent to 11 ties of standard containers on deck.

The Mary Maersk is 400 metres long and 59 metres wide, with its deck alone covering an area equivalent to three football pitches. YICT deployed ten super post-Panamax quay cranes to service the vessel, handling 6,493 containers.

YICT enjoys natural deep-water geographical advantages and has the longest contiguous berths in the region. Combined with service excellence based on safe and efficient operations, this makes it a preferred port-of-call for mega-vessels. In the first seven months of this year, YICT welcomed 569 mega-vessels, each with a carrying capacity in excess of 10,000 TEU.
