YICT Receives Inaugural Call of the Barzan, UASC’s Largest Container Vessel

On 30 May 2015, the 18,800-TEU Barzan, currently the largest container vessel in the UASC fleet, made its inaugural call at YICT. To mark the event, YICT and UASC jointly held a maiden voyage ceremony, attended by David Robert Skillen, Vice President of the UASC Asia Cluster, and Patrick Lam, Managing Director of YICT.

Measuring 400 metres long and 58.6 metres wide, the Barzan is the first of six 18,800-TEU vessels to come on stream for UASC. It is also one of the most environmentally friendly mega-vessels in the world. With dual-fuel power capability, it can reduce CO2 emissions and achieve higher energy efficiency.

The Barzan is deployed on the AEX 1 (AEC1) service, with a port rotation of Qingdao-Shanghai- -Ningbo-Yantian-Singapore-Port Kelang-Suez Canal-Felixstowe-Rotterdam-Hamburg-Zeebrugge-Rotterdam-Suez Canal-Port Kelang. During its maiden call at YICT, a total of 2,700 TEU were handled.
