"I hope my future career is at Yantian Port."

These are the very words of one of the 21 interviewees from Dalian Maritime University (DMU). On 13 June 2008, an interview was held at DMU to select students for YICT's 2008 Summer Practice Project.

After a comprehensive appraisal of the academic performance and special skills of DMU students, 21 finalists were shortlisted for the interview. During the interview, the students gave detailed explanations of their own major areas of study, their career expectations, and their perceptions and opinions of YICT. Their confidence and optimism and the richness of detail in their words won praise from both DMU and YICT judges.

The Summer Practice Project is an educational collaboration between YICT and DMU. In 2007, five DMU students were chosen to participate in the first Summer Practice Project. After their summer practice was over, the students who were now back at DMU shared what they had learned and seen at YICT and in return received favourable responses from their schoolmates. Nine students, accompanied by one teacher, will participate in this year's programme, which will last for three weeks. They will be allowed to visit YICT's operation, engineering and environmental awareness promotion departments to learn about modern port operation, production and industrial development, which will enrich their knowledge beyond what books could ever teach them.
