Every year on YICT’s Open Day, many local students are invited to visit the terminal. On 25 May 2004, YICT warmly received 90 students from Shenzhen University. Guided by YICT staff, they enthusiastically explored the Exhibition Room, had an overall view of the terminal on the roof of YICT Administration building and toured the container yard. Later, they boarded the pleasure-boat, “Southern Pearl”, to view the busy terminal from a different perspective.

Although originally relatively unfamiliar with the operations of a container terminal, the students showed great interest in YICT. Following a detail introduction, the students enthusiastically asked questions. Seeing the massive equipment on the quayside, Mr. Luo Shaosheng, a student from the College of Art & Design of Shenzhen University, said, “We are really impressed. Seeing the scale of the operations and the use of technology here in Yantian has really opened our eyes.”

The students were also impressed by the changes which have taken place in Yantian over the last decade. Mr. Feng Enjin, another student, said: “YICT Open Day offers us a great chance to appreciate the terminal. During the past ten years, YICT has grown rapidly with the development of Shenzhen.”

Following the visit, Shenzhen University will co-operate with YICT to hold the “YICT Design Competition”. This event will promote the level of design among Shenzhen Young Designers and correspond with YICT’s tenth anniversary.
