Despite the quickly increasing throughput at YICT in 2003, traffic safety at the terminal improved substantially. This was accomplished through the joint efforts of the local Government, Traffic Police Brigade, trucking companies and YICT. The flow of trucks entering and leaving YICT's gatehouses remained smooth. Average truck turnaround time was reduced from 50 minutes in 2002 to 41 minutes in 2003. The improved traffic conditions have promoted the development of both the terminal and the trucking industry.
Mr. Xu Yuguo, Executive Deputy General Manager of YICT, provided the above-mentioned update at the Terminal Safety Communication Meeting on 24 March 2004. More than 200 representatives from about 160 trucking companies were present at the meeting. Ten trucking companies including Yiu Fung Ton Transportation (Shen Zhen）Co.,Ltd. and Shenzhen Gold Sunshine Transportation Co., Ltd. were granted the "Advanced Transportation Enterprises in Safety and Service" award.
Presenting speeches at the meeting were officials from the Traffic Police Brigade and Yantian District's Supervisory Administration Bureau of Safety Production. A representative from Yantian Public Security Bureau outlined some case studies regarding container transportation. Also, representatives from two trucking companies shared their management experiences with attendees.
