The first Global Warehousing and Distribution (GWD) hub of Amazon has officially commenced operations at YANTIAN, Shenzhen. Located just five kilometres from YANTIAN, the facility is seamlessly integrated with the port's shipping network and serves as a core physical anchor of Amazon's "next-generation cross-border supply chain" strategy. The project has been spotlighted by both CCTV-2's CCTV Economic News and CCTV-13's Live News, underscoring its significance.

Leveraging more than 2 million square metres of high-standard, port-adjacent warehouse clusters in YANTIAN—including bonded warehouses, export supervised warehouses, general warehouses, cold storage facilities, and MCC warehouses—together with a mature and highly efficient multimodal logistics network and streamlined customs clearance environment, YANTIAN provides a solid foundation for the normalized operation of GWD, enabling GWD to fully realise its core strengths—cost efficiency, speed, and operational flexibility—effectively addressing key industry challenges such as inventory backlogs, supply disruptions, and capital tie-up in cross-border e-commerce. In turn, it empowers "Shenzhen Smart Manufacturing" to reach global markets with greater agility and efficiency.

This development marks a milestone upgrade in Shenzhen's cross-border e-commerce infrastructure. It not only reinforces the city's position as China's leading cross-border e-commerce hub, but also injects strong momentum into YANTIAN's ambition to become a world-class logistics hub for cross-border e-commerce, further consolidating its comprehensive supply chain advantages as the preferred port for cross-border e-commerce in South China.

On April 15, Amazon officially launched its first Global Warehousing and Distribution (GWD) hub in Shenzhen. As a cornerstone of Amazon's "next-generation cross-border supply chain" strategy, the rollout of GWD marks a milestone in the upgrading of Shenzhen's cross-border e-commerce infrastructure. It also stands as a compelling example of effective government–enterprise collaboration, underscoring Shenzhen's strength as China's leading cross-border e-commerce hub.

Under the GWD model, Amazon brings forward key warehousing and distribution functions, traditionally performed within its overseas FBA network, to the cargo origin in Shenzhen. With its three core advantages—cost efficiency, speed, and operational flexibility—it delivers streamlined, end-to-end global fulfilment services for cross-border sellers. On one hand, the "origin-based warehousing" approach significantly lowers overseas storage costs while integrating Amazon's in-house logistics capacity and full-chain managed services, enabling cargoes to move swiftly to global distribution nodes and FBA warehouses, cutting cross-border delivery times by up to seven days. On the other hand, GWD enables "small-batch, high-frequency replenishment," dynamically aligning inventory with real-time demand, effectively mitigating stockpiling and stockout risks while reducing capital tie-up.

According to a representative from the E-commerce Division of the Commerce Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, Shenzhen is home to more than half of China's cross-border e-commerce sellers, whose operations place a premium on flexible replenishment, rapid turnover, and cost control. The launch of GWD lowers the financial threshold for overseas inventory deployment, enabling "Shenzhen Smart Manufacturing" to reach global consumers with greater speed, agility, and efficiency.

In recent years, Shenzhen has remained steadfast in its pursuit of high-quality development, advancing with bold experimentation and determined execution to build one of the nation's most dynamic cross-border e-commerce ecosystems. The city's cross-border e-commerce import and export volume has ranked first among major cities nationwide for four consecutive years. 16 of the world's top 20 e-commerce platforms have established a presence in Shenzhen, while listed companies in the sector account for one-third of the national total. The "one site, two warehouses" model—integrating independent websites with overseas and consolidation warehouses—continues to evolve, supported by an increasingly sophisticated service framework. More than 1,000 enterprises have joined "sunshine compliance" pilot programs, with cumulative import and export volumes approaching CNY100 billion.

Looking ahead, the Commerce Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality will work in close coordination with customs, taxation, and foreign exchange authorities, taking the launch of Amazon's GWD as a strategic starting point to attract more cross-border e-commerce platforms to establish core infrastructure in Shenzhen. Efforts will be accelerated to foster a transparent, efficient, and compliant ecosystem, with early breakthroughs in compliant operations and trade facilitation, enabling enterprises to reduce costs, enhance efficiency, and expand globally with greater agility. Meanwhile, Shenzhen will step up efforts to cultivate a cohort of local service providers with strong global supply chain integration capabilities, contributing to the development of a higher-level, open economy.
