On 27 May 2009, United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) restructured one of its Far East-Mediterranean loops, namely the Asia-Mediterranean Container Service 1 (AMC1). The restructuring is part of UASC's efforts to strengthen its service in Italy and France. The revamped service now provides direct shipping services to La Spezia. In addition, the AMC1 westbound service, with its first port of call in Port Said, is one of the fastest services available, and it is aiming to extend its services to the east coast of the Mediterranean.

The AMC1 service comprises eight 2,700-3,800 TEU vessels, which call at YICT every Wednesday and follow a port rotation of Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Singapore, Port Said, La Spezia, Genoa, Fos-sur-mer, Malta, Jeddah, Khor Fakkan, Singapore and Shanghai.
