On 31 March, 2003, after six months of construction, YICT completed the process of converting on-dock warehouses into a container yard. Set to become operational in April, the conversion will increase the stacking area of the terminal by nearly 100,000 square meters.
YICT commenced the conversion process on 17 September, 2002. It relocated the original on-dock warehouses 1, 2, 3 and 4 to a site near Yantian Railway Station, dismantled the railway line from Yantian Railway Station to the terminal at Pinghu-Yantian Railway, and then transformed the area into a container yard.
In addition, YICT has rented six container yards outside the terminal to alleviate stacking pressure in the terminal’s main yard in preparation for the peak season of 2003.
