On the morning of 15 July 2002, Mr Tang Longjun, Director of Dapeng Customs, and other five Customs officers held an on-site meeting with YICT to work out Customs Clearance issues. During the meeting, both parties agreed to apply improved IT in Customs Declaration operations in order to expedite Customs Clearance under effective supervision. Dapeng Customs will subsequently develop close communications with YICT in order to streamline the Customs procedures, which affect international trans-shipment, transit-cargo seals and equipment interchange receipts (EIR).

Simplification of international trans-shipment procedures is one of the key points under discussion between Dapeng Customs and YICT. To conform to international practice and achieve efficient Customs supervision, YICT and Dapeng Customs have jointly developed a Customs Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Platform for the eastern ports. The platform will include the functions of sharing, checking and writing-off international trans-shipment data in real time. In this way, cargo destined for international trans-shipment can be declared on a come-and-go basis.

Under this new scheme, shipping lines and other customers will enjoy maximum convenience in Customs Clearance processes. They will also have greater opportunity to arrange cargo sources and shipping capacity. Meanwhile, the new EDI Platform will create a proactive environment for Dapeng Customs, allowing it to better serve the local economy through effective supervision.
