Imported Wine Source-tracking Technology Kicks off at YICT

On 5 November, a ceremony marking the launch of imported wine source-tracking technology was held at YICT. Attended the ceremony were some 200 guests from the Bureau of Import & Export Food Safety of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection & Quarantine (AQSIQ), Shenzhen Wine Association and the wine import industry.

The event, co-hosted by China Certification & Inspection Group and Shenzhen Shizun Logistics Company, was organised by the Economic Development Bureau of Yantian District Government and the Yantian Bureau of AQSIQ. GS1 Hong Kong and YICT were among the event’s sponsors. Bi Kexin, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Import & Export Food Safety of AQSIQ; Wang Shourui, Deputy Director of Yantian District Government, and YB Wai, Port Development Director of YICT were present at the ceremony.

The new technology adapts the Bubble Tag™, a traceability and authentication solution proposed by the French company Prooftag, to assure the authenticity of the imported wine. It will facilitate the anti-counterfeiting management of imported wine and accelerate port clearance procedures. By utilising this technology, the Inspection and Quarantine Bureau and Customs can receive and process the documents of imported wine prior to the arrival of the cargo, thus substantially reducing the time needed for port clearance.

In recent years, South China has seen a continuous increase in demand for imported wine. YICT, with its extensive international services network, is well positioned to accommodate the growing trend of wine imports. During the first three quarters of 2012, the volume of imported wine handled by YICT recorded approximately 100-percent increase compared to the same period last year.
