On 16 September 2107, the first container train serving the railway cargo route linking Shenzhen with Kashgar in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region set off from Yantian. A ceremony hosted by the Yantian Port Group and co-hosted by Yantian International Container Terminals and other three companies was held to mark the occasion. Chen Biao, Vice Mayor of Shenzhen, Patrick Lam, Managing Director of YICT, and Tong Yaming, Chairman of the Yantian Port Group, attended the ceremony.
