YANTIAN Welcomes the World's Largest Container Vessel, the 24,000-TEU HMM Algeciras

On the night of 7 May 2020, YANTIAN welcomed the maiden voyage of the world's largest container vessel, the HMM Algeciras. On 8 May, Patrick Lam, Managing Director of Hutchison Ports Yantian, received Kenny Yoo, Managing Director of HMM China (South China and Hong Kong), and presented him a souvenir to mark the maiden voyage.

HMM Algeciras measures 400 meters long and 61 meters wide, and its length approximates to the height of KK100, Shenzhen's second tallest building. With the deck covering an area of four soccer fields, the vessel can carry 23,964 TEU. If these containers are connected one by one, they will stretch from Shenzhen to Guangzhou (about 145 kilometres). It is also the first of the twelve 24,000-TEU container vessels fleet of HMM, and the other eleven is expected to be delivered this year.

HMM Algeciras will be deployed on THE Alliances’ Asia-Europe service, following a port rotation of Qingdao, Busan, Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Suez Canal, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerp and London.
