YANTIAN Celebrates the Establishment of Its Inland Port in Pinghu South and the Launch of “Hutchison Ports Yantian” Container Rail Service

On 23 July 2021, a ceremony was held at Pinghu South Depot of China Railway Guangzhou Group to celebrate the establishment of Yantian’s Inland Port in Pinghu South and the launch of "Hutchison Ports Yantian” container rail service. At the event, the first train of "Hutchison Ports Yantian" container rail service departed from Pinghu South Inland Port fully loaded for Yantian Port, marking the establishment of the sixth inland port of Yantian. It is part of the its efforts to establish itself as a green port and develop inland ports in Shenzhen to achieve the goals of “carbon peak” and “carbon neutrality”.

As the most important world-class container hub in South China, YANTIAN has risen to the challenges posed by the continuing COVID-19 pandemic and the complex landscape of international trade. With a full set of precautionary measures against COVID-19 in place, YANTIAN is able to explore initiatives to improve performance and seize new business opportunities. In the first 6 months of this year, it recorded an increase of 20 international routes. It handled approximately 6.5 million TEU, a year-on-year increase of over 20%. In particular, the volume of export laden containers shipped by intermodal services of Pingyan Railway grew by more than 60% year-on-year.

YANTIAN has been committed to the development of intermodal services, with a total of 18 container rail services covering major cargo catchment areas. Leveraging the Pingyan Railway,YANTIAN has established its inland port in Ganzhou, Heyuan, Changping, Heshan, Liling, and Pinghu South.

Pinghu South connects the city’s railway with the national railway network, and is close to the major manufacturing bases of Shenzhen and Dongguan. The Pinghu South Inland Port is able to provide another gateway for the export cargo of the Pearl River Delta, open up the "last mile" for exporting cargo via Yantian Port.

·The Pinghu South Inland Port occupies an area of nearly 30,000 square meters, which can accommodate 1,000 containers.
·The Pinghu South Inland Port has help extend the terminal functions to Pinghu South, which significantly improves the efficiency of container turnaround.
·The establishment of Pinghu South Inland Port bolsters the efficiency of container pickup and grounding. Hence, the transportation time has been significantly shortened.
·The seamless connection between the Pinghu South Inland Port and Yantian has greatly improved the yard capacity to provide customers with more convenient stacking solutions.

Yantian will fully cooperate with China Railway Guangzhou Group to promote intermodal services and implement the "1+2+N" strategic cooperation with the Group, carry out Shenzhen’s overall plan on the development of inland ports in the city, boost the growth of port industries of YANTIAN District and facilitate its efforts in building an international shipping hub.

Bao Liqun, Deputy General Manager of China Railway Guangzhou Group, Luo Yi, Deputy Head of Yantian District Government, Dong Yanze, Director of the Department of Port and Shipping Administration of Shenzhen Transport Bureau, Lawrence Shum, Managing Director of Hutchison Ports Yantian, and representatives from government departments, shipping lines and cargo owners attended the ceremony to mark the event.
