Recently, YANTIAN welcomed three new additions to its equipment fleet—one remote-controlled quay crane and two remote-controlled quay cranes dedicated to feeder operations, all manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC). These are the first deliveries under this year's plan to add seven quay cranes. Two of the new cranes have been specifically designed for feeder services and will provide new momentum for efficient feeder operations, supporting the growing volume of Shenzhen–Hong Kong feeder traffic.

🤝Taking this opportunity, YANTIAN is further strengthening Shenzhen–Hong Kong synergy by leveraging the complementary service resources of YANTIAN in Shenzhen and Kwai Tsing Port in Hong Kong. Together, they are enhancing their role as a hub that connects domestic and international markets, advancing the development of a world-class port cluster in the Greater Bay Area and deepening Shenzhen–Hong Kong cooperation in shipping, ports, and logistics.
🤝At the same time, YANTIAN is working closely with ports across the Greater Bay Area to continuously optimise its feeder logistics network and improve the efficiency of water-to-water transshipment services.
🤝Through these collaborative efforts, YANTIAN is not only helping ensure the stable operation of short-sea shipping services within the APEC region, but is also working with Kwai Tsing to expand the global shipping network, better serve international trade, and promote high-quality coordinated development between the ports of Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

The rapid commissioning of the new equipment was made possible by ZPMC's efficient management of production, testing, and delivery, ensuring that all equipment was delivered on schedule and to a high standard. Notably, the feeder-dedicated remote-controlled quay cranes are the first such equipment procured by YANTIAN specifically for feeder operations. Equipped with the latest-generation Siemens electrical control and remote-control systems, the cranes feature virtualised servers capable of automatic or manual hot switching in the event of hardware or software failures. The equipment is also equipped with intelligent tallying, intelligent anti-collision, and automatic tractor guidance systems, ensuring safer and smoother operations while significantly enhancing operational efficiency and intelligent capabilities.

Feeder Throughput Reaches Record Highs: Putting the Principle of Moderate Forward-Looking Investment into Practice

This equipment upgrade represents a key strategic move by YANTIAN in response to rapid business growth and its long-standing commitment to the principle of moderate forward-looking investment. In recent years, YANTIAN has continued to set new records in feeder service throughput. In 2025, feeder service throughput at YANTIAN reached 1.2 million TEUs, a record high. Feeder services between YANTIAN and Hong Kong have been in operation for more than 32 years, with container volumes maintaining annual growth. Following an increase of nearly 30% in 2024, the number of laden containers on the Hong Kong service grew by a further 10% in 2025, setting another record.

The equipment renewal and upgrade is designed to support this significant growth in feeder service volumes. At present, the West Port operates close to full capacity, primarily serving short-sea services and feeder container vessels. It has become a key hub connecting inland regions, the Greater Bay Area, and nearby regional ports. The newly added feeder-dedicated remote-controlled quay cranes will be deployed in the Central Port, further expanding the scope of feeder services.

Moderate forward-looking investment has long been a development principle upheld by YANTIAN and has guided successive phases of port development. This latest equipment upgrade is another example of that approach in practice, reflecting the company's early recognition of the rapid growth of its feeder services and its decisive response.

Strengthening the Greater Bay Area Logistics Network: Connecting Domestic and International Markets Through Green and Efficient Transport

Feeder service is an important part of the port's logistics system, serving as a key link between domestic and international markets. To date, YANTIAN has launched 17 feeder services with more than 90 sailings per week and established 15 port alliances, providing customers with more efficient and convenient logistics services. At the same time, feeder transportation offers an effective alternative to road transportation. A single feeder vessel can carry multiple batches of cargoes and is generally less affected by adverse weather conditions or holiday traffic congestion. It not only helps ease pressure on road networks, but also effectively reduces carbon emissions, providing strong support for the high-quality development of China's foreign trade and the achievement of the country's dual-carbon goals.

A Model of Shenzhen-Hong Kong Cooperation: Complementary Strengths and Mutual Benefit

The Shenzhen YANTIAN–Hong Kong Kwai Tsing port partnership has been incorporated into Guangdong's transportation development strategy and Shenzhen's 15th Five-Year Plan. In March 2025, the Guangdong Three-Year Action Plan for High-Quality Transportation Development (2025–2027) was issued, calling for stronger cross-boundary transport connectivity with Hong Kong and Macao SARs and further deepening cooperation between Shenzhen YANTIAN and Hong Kong Kwai Tsing. In May 2026, the Outline of Shenzhen's 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development called for strengthened cooperation between YANTIAN and Kwai Tsing Port, as well as enhanced waterborne and land-based transshipment services.

By leveraging the complementary service resources, Kwai Tsing Port and YANTIAN are jointly advancing the development of a world-class port cluster in the Greater Bay Area, deepening Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation in ports, shipping, and logistics, and further consolidating Hong Kong's cargo throughput and status as an international shipping centre, while supporting its better integration into and contribution to national development.

As a flagship project of Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation, feeder services between YANTIAN and Kwai Tsing have been in operation for more than 32 years. Six feeder sailings operate daily between the two ports, while container volumes have maintained annual growth. Together, Kwai Tsing and YANTIAN provide access to major ports and shipping services around the world, making full use of their respective strengths and complementary advantages. Through closer cooperation, complementary development, and mutual benefit, they provide efficient and convenient logistics channels for foreign trade enterprises across the Greater Bay Area and inland regions.

Central and West Ports: The Backbone of Feeder Operations

The West Port serves key functions for Shenzhen-Hong Kong feeder express services, Greater Bay Area feeder services, and short-sea shipping services. As demand for feeder transportation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong continues to grow, berth resources in the Central and West Ports have become increasingly important to the operations of feeder express services. YANTIAN continues to optimise and upgrade its facilities and equipment, enhancing service capabilities for Shenzhen-Hong Kong feeder operations and promoting high-quality coordinated development between the ports of Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

The West Port has achieved integrated development with the Central and East Ports, sharing shipping services and yard facilities to form a coordinated network combining international trunk routes and regional feeder services. Through resource sharing and complementary advantages, the Central and West Ports have become the backbone of efficient feeder operations, supported by forward-looking investment and continuously enhanced operational capabilities. They provide strong support for efficient and convenient logistics channels serving foreign trade enterprises across the Greater Bay Area and inland regions.

Moving from adapting to demand to leading demand, YANTIAN is strengthening a green and efficient logistics network for the Greater Bay Area through forward-looking planning. It will continue to embrace new quality productive forces, further enhance the digitalisation and green development of its terminals, and work closely with port supervisory authorities and relevant government departments to provide stable, efficient, and low-carbon logistics channels. In doing so, it will support the development of the real economy, contribute to the high-quality development of Shenzhen's and China's foreign trade, and deepen connectivity with APEC member economies through concrete actions.
