On 18 October 2007, four teams of interns from Shenzhen University reported on their summer practise programs at YICT. Following assessment by a panel of judges, two of the teams tied for first place, winning the "Education Tour to Gwangyang and Busan, Korea" prize for the following areas of study: Systems for the Prediction of Container Yard Density, and Management of Filing Engineering Contracts.
Fourteen students and two teachers took part in the three-week summer practise project. In addition to their project work at the terminal, the trainees also visited Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals and Huawei Technologies through special arrangements made by YICT.
