YICT holds Customer Communication Session 2016

On 24 June 2016, YICT held its annual customer communication session with the theme “YICT, the Gateway to the World”. Around 220 guests, including cargo owners, freight forwarders and representatives from shipping lines and related government departments, attended the event.

In 2016, YICT has cemented its status as the gateway of South China, attracting the calls of all of the world’s mega-vessels with carrying capacity exceeding 18,000 TEU. In the first half of 2016, Berth #16 and Berth #4 of the West Port passed official inspection and were put into operations. The new berths coupled with newly purchased quay cranes have enhanced the mega-vessel handling capabilities of the port.

YICT has long been committed to enhancing its productivity and efficiency with technological innovation and state-of-the-art equipment, examples of which are the Auto-gate project and an operation service centre on the WeChat. In June this year, YICT was recognised for conforming to the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) practice, the world’s most stringent and top-of-the-class standard for software development. It is the first container terminal in China to win such accreditation.

As a pioneer to create a green port, YICT introduced two 4 MVA mobile shore power systems covering five berths that can accommodate 150,000-DWT to 200,000-DWT vessels, thus leading the industry in providing shore power for the world’s largest container vessels. Moreover, in compliance with the Amendment of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), YICT responds in a timely manner to release operational processes and is able to provide fast and accurate weighing services for its customers.

At the event, representatives from port supervisory authorities introduced the new initiatives in clearance procedures. Patrick Lam, Managing Director of YICT and his management team exchanged ideas with attendees on the customers’ comments.
