On 30 April 2008, Feng Rencai, a senior engineer at YICT, won the Medal of Guangdong's Model Worker award for his excellent work ethic and overall performance.
On 27 April 2008, YICT became one of the first ports in mainland China to be named as an "International Sanitary Port" by the World Health Organization (WHO).
On 20 April 2008, Evergreen launched the Evergreen Asia-US Service (EAUS) at Yantian, providing an alternative route for cargo shipped from South China to the US ports of Los Angeles and Oakland.
On 17 April 2008, YICT welcomed the Yu Kun, the first ship designed and developed in China for use as a teaching vessel for ocean shipping and the world's most advanced ship of its type.
On 14 April 2008, YICT welcomed the "Nedlloyd Asia", the first of five 4,500-TEU vessels that Maersk has deployed to its new Far East-Middle East 2 (FM2) service.
On 12 April 2008, YICT launched a new greenification scheme at the terminal in order to improve the local environment. A designated greenbelt area 450 metres long and 12 metres wide was established at the southernmost part of YICT's Expansion Project.
On 1 April 2007, the Guangdong Provincial Office of the State Administration of Taxation (SAT) and the Guangdong Provincial Local Taxation Bureau held a press conference where they announced the list of the province's top 100 taxpayers for 2007.
On 9 April 2008, YICT welcomed the commencement of the Transpacific 2 (TP2) service – a new US service that is jointly operated by Maersk and CMA CGM. Additionally, Mediterranean Shipping Company will charter slots.
In March 2008, YICT welcomed the commencement of three of Maersk's new Asia-Europe services – the AE8W, AE3W and AE11W services.
On 19 March 2008, YICT was chosen as the best of the "Top Ten Shenzhen Logistics Enterprises" at the annual Shenzhen Logistics Brand Ceremony, hosted by the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily and several local logistics associations.
On 18 March 2008, YICT began a collaborative environmental protection and education programme with Lingnan (University) College of Sun Yat-Sen University, one of China's most respected centres of higher learning.
Through a series of energy-saving initiatives, YICT was able to reduce its electricity consumption by 19.9 percent per TEU in 2007, earning applause from organisations such as the Shenzhen Bureau of Trade and Industry.
On 25 February 2008, YICT welcomed its first new shipping service since the Chinese New Year – the Asia-East Mediterranean (AEM) service of Evergreen Line.
